In this two-part class, students will learn the basics of hand-lettering through various practice exercises, see real world applications from the instructor, and learn various layout techniques.
Part One will focus on creating steady lines and muscle memory before moving on to look at how a calligraphy pen works to understand upstrokes, downstrokes, and when to apply line thicknesses. Students will be given several alphabet guide sheets to take home and practice, as well as step-by-step instructions of everything we cover in class.
Part Two students will work on a self-selected finished project, focusing on creating lettering flourishes and techniques for laying out multiple words and quotes.
Prerequisite: None. All skill levels welcome.
